LA -- Day 4

Sunday was another great day. We started at the La Brea tar pits. Yes, pits in the ground bubbling up with tar, fossils, bones, strange prehistoric creatures, you got it. But seriously, if you ever go to LA, you should check out this little museum right in the middle of Miracle Mile. It was fascinating!

Interesting facts:
They have pulled out over 1 million fossils since the 30s.
They only excavate 25-35 feet down. I imagine that there could be more below.
They have found North American Lions, Short-faced Bears, Horses, Giant Sloths (life-sized replica below), Camels (yes, camels), Dire Wolves, Saber-toothed cats, Mammoths, Mastadons, and other small animals and birds.
They are STILL excavating; you can watch them hard at work, scooping up buckets full of tar while meticulously saving every scrap and speck found.
The most common fossil found is the Dire Wolf.

And then it was off to the Dodgers game. Thanks to Manny Ramirez for hitting a home run in the 5th inning. That earned the Dodgers another run and Connor a free ticket to Universal Studios!
